Uses and scope

French, Portuguese and Turkish use cedilla letters in current spelling. Latvian ķ, ļ, ņ and ģ have Unicode names containing CEDILLA but normally use comma-shaped glyphs. Lowercase ģ commonly places that glyph above the descender. The encoded name should not be mistaken for a requirement to draw a hook in every language. [16], [23], [33], [43], [31], [3]

Similar shapes, different characters

Romanian ș and ț should use comma below, with different code points from ş and ţ. Canonical normalization does not merge these pairs. Ogonek is another distinct mark, used in letters such as Polish ą. A copy action should preserve which one was selected even if a font renders them similarly. [1], [2], [16], [23], [33], [43], [31], [3]
