Devanagari dependent vowel signs combine with consonants. They are not merely accents on Latin-style letters. The script is used for several languages, so a sign inventory does not mean that every language uses every sign equally. [6]

Spelling and status
The consonant has an inherent vowel; a dependent vowel sign changes that vowel, and virama suppresses it. Nukta modifies consonant identity. Anusvara, candrabindu and visarga are related signs with language-specific interpretation. The examples here use simple Devanagari bases and do not attempt to teach every Hindi or Sanskrit syllable rule. [6]
Distinctions to preserve
The vowel sign ि is stored after its consonant even when drawn to the left. Virama can participate in conjunct shaping, so deleting it can change the written syllable. Nukta is not dot below U+0323. Devanagari has no uppercase/lowercase pairing, and an independent vowel letter is different from its dependent sign. [6], [1], [2]

Searchable character table
The inventory covers common Devanagari vowel signs and related marks, with vocalic signs included for broader script reference. Some signs have Sanskrit or other language-specific use; this is not a claim that all belong to everyday Hindi. [6], [9], [1]
