Uses and scope

Swedish, Danish and Norwegian use å as a letter. Czech ů has its own spelling history and differs from ú in written use. The same ring shape therefore does not establish the same linguistic role across these alphabets. [37], [40], [38], [28], [29], [4]

Similar shapes, different characters

Degree sign ° is not a ring accent. The angstrom sign Å has a canonical mapping to Å, a historical encoding relationship that normalization preserves through its equivalent form. That does not make a degree sign equivalent to Å. The spacing ring ˚ is also different from a combining ring attached to a base. [1], [2], [37], [40], [38], [28], [29], [4]
