Spelling and status

The Swedish language council contrasts this order with Danish and Norwegian æ, ø, å. A sort by Unicode code point is not Swedish alphabetical sorting. The collection also provides é for names and borrowed spellings recorded in Swedish locale data, outside the three extra alphabet letters. [37], [9]

Distinctions to preserve

Ä and æ are not the same encoded character, nor are ö and ø. Å decomposes canonically to A plus a ring above, while ø does not decompose to o plus a slash. Copy the original spelling of a name rather than converting among Scandinavian letters by appearance. [37], [9], [1], [2]
