Uses and scope

Unicode annotates vertical line above for Marshallese and vertical line below for syllabic consonants in IPA, alongside other language and dialectological uses. These annotations identify contexts, not a complete current Marshallese alphabet or a transcription prescription for every consonant. The example n̩ illustrates the below-mark sequence. [4], [8]

Similar shapes, different characters

The spacing pipe character | is not either combining mark. Greek tonos and a combining acute can appear nearly vertical in some fonts but have different identities. Moving a line with CSS does not change its code point or combining class. Copy the sign whose encoded placement matches the required notation. [1], [2], [4], [8]
