Uses and scope

The names list associates bridge below with dental articulation, inverted bridge below with apical articulation, and bridge above with dentolabial notation in extended IPA. These are specialized phonetic annotations rather than ordinary alphabet letters. Use the relevant phonetic convention when transcribing speech instead of assigning a sound from the glyph alone. Similar shapes, different characters

A breve below is a different curved mark. Bridge above U+0346 must not be substituted for bridge below U+032A merely because space around a base is tight.
