Spelling and status
The official Ukrainian orthography lists 33 letters. This focused collection supplies the marked letters and several forms easily lost when a keyboard is set to another language. Ї canonically decomposes to Cyrillic і plus diaeresis; й decomposes to Cyrillic и plus breve. [47], [9]
Distinctions to preserve
Latin i and Cyrillic і have different code points. The same distinction applies to capital I and Ukrainian І. Normalization does not translate one script into another. Do not substitute Russian ё for Ukrainian ї, or treat ґ as a g with an arbitrary combining mark. [47], [9], [1], [2]
