Turkish has two I case pairs: I with ı, and İ with i. A default English case conversion can therefore change the intended Turkish letter. [33], [34]

Spelling and status
The Turkish Language Association lists ç, ğ, ı, ö, ş and ü in the alphabet. Circumflex remains in specified spellings with â, î and û, but these are not additional alphabet letters. The collection includes them separately because a spelling may still require the mark. [33], [34]
Distinctions to preserve
Turkish ş uses a cedilla; Romanian ș uses a comma below. İ canonically decomposes to I plus combining dot above, while dotless ı is an independent letter. Normalization is not locale-sensitive casing and does not resolve which I a Turkish word needs. [33], [34], [1], [2]
