Spelling and status

Vytautas Magnus University lists the Lithuanian vowels and consonants. The ogonek forms belong to that inventory, but the shape of an ogonek alone is not evidence that a vowel has the same sound in every language. This table supplies the regular marked letters without adding specialist accentuation symbols. [44], [9]

Distinctions to preserve

Keep ė separate from ę and from Latvian ē. Use an ogonek rather than a cedilla below the vowels. Removing marks merges distinct Lithuanian letters, so a normalization tool should report its transformation without presenting the result as corrected Lithuanian spelling. [44], [9], [1], [2]
