Hungarian uses the double acute in ő and ű. It is a distinct mark from the two dots in ö and ü, not an ornamental version of them. [32], [4]

Spelling and status
The official spelling rules distinguish short and long vowel letters. In particular, ö pairs with ő and ü with ű. Acute vowels á, é, í, ó and ú also belong to the regular letter inventory. The accent does not merely instruct the reader to stress a syllable. [32], [4]
Distinctions to preserve
Do not substitute German ö or ü for Hungarian ő or ű. Nor should two spacing acute signs be inserted after o or u. The double acute is one combining character, U+030B, and the composed Hungarian letters have their own code points. [32], [4], [1], [2]
