Spelling and status

Taaladvies specifies an acute accent for written emphasis. A grave accent is not an alternative emphasis sign. Borrowed spellings and diaeresis have their own conventions, so a mark already present in a word should not be interpreted automatically as an instruction to stress it. [25], [26]

Distinctions to preserve

Capitalization does not follow a blanket rule that every accent either disappears or always remains. The linked Taaladvies guidance distinguishes emphasis, loanwords and other marks on capitals.
